1. Manakula Vinayagar Temple

This is a temple of Lord Ganesha which was previously known as Bhavaneshwar Ganapathy temple. There is a pond near this temple with a lot of sand. Manal means sand and kulam means pond. Hence it is called Manakulum. The temple has a lot of incarnations of God Ganesha. There is also a shrine of Lord Murugan.  A golden Vimana, gold plated Kodi Kambam, outer mandapam, Maha Mandapam, rajagopuram and golden chariot are the highlights of this temple

2. Aurobindo Ashram

Sri Aurobindo founded this Ashram with Mirra Alfassa. The Aurobindo Trust teaches the art of Inner Yoga. It is located in Marine Street and is always crowded with spiritual seekers.

3. Botanical Garden

This garden has an amazing collection of 1500 species of plants and trees from various parts of the world. The 22-acres garden with musical fountain attracts tourists from all over the world. A short trip on the toy train is very enjoyable for the kids.

4. Museum of Pondicherry

This museum is located at the St. Louis Street. It has a vast number of bronze statues of deities which includes statues of the Chola and Pallava period and Roman settlements. Coins, handicrafts, crockery, swords, guns and fossilized trunks of ancient trees are the major attractions of this museum. 

5. War Memorial

This memorial is located on Goubert Avenue. It was constructed in memory of the French martyrs who lost their lives in World War in 1914-1918. It has a statue of a soldier holding a rifle in his hand sculpted by sculptor Gaston Petit.

6. Gandhi Statue

This statue is situated opposite to the War Memorial. Cultural programs can be conducted on the square platform. There is a tunnel leading to the Gingee Fort but it is closed now.

7. Promenade Beach

This beach is situated on Goubert Avenue. There is a 1.5 km long promenade extending from the War Memorial to Dupleix Park. Walking along the promenade will give you immense pleasure. The sunrise and sunset views are mind blowing. 

8. Holy Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus

This church is a masterpiece of Gothic Architecture. This is a brown and white church built by the French missionaries in 1908. This is the first church of Pondicherry with Terracotta motifs and stained glasses of the spiritual complex exhibits of the important life events of Jesus Christ. 

9. Auroville City

On a one day trip to Pondicherry from Chennai, the Auroville City is a place that must be surely visited. It is also known as the City of Dawn which was designed by Roger Anger. It has different sections like industry area, cultural zone, peace area and residential zone. There is a magnificent temple called the Matrimandir.

10. Auro Beach

It is otherwise called Auroville Beach and is located at a distance of 12 km from Pondicherry. Surfers surf in this part early in the morning. This is a less crowded beach where you can enjoy beautiful sunrise and sunset views. Walking along the sea shore also gives you a cool and enchanting experience.
